The Peshawar Conspiracy Case refers to a set of five cases which took place between 1922 to 1927 in the British India. The people who were tried in these cases had sneaked into British India from Russia to start a revolution. The twenties of twentieth century was a decade which saw the revival of revolutionary movement in British India. The British Imperial government in India was terrified by the idea of spread of communism in India. It was not the only case which became popular and galvanized the imagination of the young population of India, there were similar such cases. Meerut Conspiracy Case

In March 1929, 31 labour leaders were arrested on the charge of conspiracy. The leaders included three Englishmen who had helped in the organization of the workers movement in India. They were taken to Meerut and were tried. The trial lasted for four years and is known as Meerut Conspiracy Case. Many defense committees were formed all over the country and even in England and other foreign countries. The nationalist leaders provided legal defense to the accused. Some of them were acquitted while others were convicted. The workers organizations had been growing and played an active part in the nationalist movement. The British government issued the Public Safety Ordinance in 1929 to remove from India persons it considered British and foreign communist agents.

The Meerut Conspiracy Case was a controversial court caseinitiated in British India in March 1929 and decided in 1933. Severaltrade unionists, including three Englishmen were arrested for organizing an Indian railway strike. The trial immediately caught attention back home in England, inspired the 1932 play titled Meerut, by Manchester street theatre group the 'Red Megaphones', highlighting the detrimental effects of colonisation and industrialisation.[1]

Kanpur Bolshevik Conspiracy Case tried the emerging leaders supporting communist ideology. Under this trial, Muzaffar Ahmad, S. A. Dange, Shaukat Usmani and Nalini Gupta were jailed in May 1924.
During second decade of the twentieth century, the Imperialist British government ruling over India was highly terrified with the idea of spread of communism in India. Kanpur Bolshevik Conspiracy Case and Peshwar Conspiracy Case which were five trials were mainly result of that fear factor.
